1. Today in class we discussed different search engines in the A-Z database of the university's online library. We learned new programs like the CQ Researcher, Brittanica Online, and Lexis-Nexis.
2. Everything was very importatn to me because now I know that whenever I need to look something up, and I cannot find it somewhere, I have alternatives. It is also very useful to know all of this is online just incase the library is not accessable.
3. To ensure that I don't run into a dead end, I need to make sure I use very specific terms that I am sure will help me find the information that I need. I also need to make sure I don't use too many terms because that broadens my search.

1. How did Huracane Katrina affect the U.S., whether it was geographically or politically?
2. I used the terms "huracane," "Katrina," and "political." I for the second set of terms I used "huracane," "Katrina," and "geopgraphy." They gave me a lot of results, so no, thee did not work.
3. I did try putting "political" OR "geography" in the same search, but it did not work; the search only gave me more results.
4. At the end, I endend up with only about 1,000 results. It was still quite a lot, but it was a better number than what it had given me before. I think a number around 300 is appropriate.
5. Only very few answered my question. I had to look in several different results to get a better understanding of my question.
6. Boolean operators help because they define the relationship between words. For example, AND means to use all terms given, OR mean only some, and NOT means not to give results with a certain word in it.

1. We discussed how to use the school library as another source. We also talked about databases and Venn diagrams. We learned how to use the Academic Search Premier.
2. It was particularly important to me to find out how to use the Academic Search Premier because it is another way to find information, specially if you're looking for a historical news article.
3. I can use the techniques by using the Academic Search Premier to find information, instead of google, and I can also display information a different way by doing venn diagrams.
4. I think this a very good search strategy, but I do agree that it is much more useful for some things than others.

1. My first question was who was Socrates?
2. What was Socrates known for? How Did Socrates help shape Philosophy? What do Socrates and Plato have to do with each other? Why was Socrates so significant to understand Ancient Greece?
3. Each question took me to the next. I asked who Socrates was; when I came up with that question, I then began to ask why he was important to philosophy, because every source told me he contributed to the foundation of philosophy.
4. Yes, I would say my last question was more complex, because it was no longer who was Socrates, but who was he and WHY was he important in Ancient Greece. I could continue with this question to make an even more complex question.
5. During Socrates time, was were the major events going on that encouraged him to ask questions and therefore develop the idea of philosophy?

2. The point that was made that will help me most in the future is the website http://delicious.com. That way, I can be at any computer and still have my bookmarks.
3. Next time I am researching I will ask more questions; istead of staing with my original question, I will make more questions as I find more answers.
4. I think that everytime someone is going to look up something and do research, they should look up many different websites so they can have more accurate information.
5. All I can say is that if there is a topic that needs to be researched, a person should look it up thoroughly and search in different places so you the the right information.
